BIG RED DOG Engineering is providing civil engineering services for a 258-unit multifamily project in Dallas. The Lake Highlands Town Center is located at 9300 Lookout Point in the City of Dallas. The project is focused on being walkable and transit-oriented with the Lake Highlands Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) station being less than 1/3 mile away. The complex includes 4 stories of parking and several live-work units on the first floor; an Amenity Courtyard (18,258 sf) with pool and bbq area, dog runs, Private Amenity Park (7,050 sf); and a Fitness Center.
The original plan for Lake Highlands Town Center was to contain retail, restaurants, apartments and commercial space. New plans include a 5-building, almost 60,000-square-foot shopping center which would be added to the 70-acre development. The shopping center would include a 30,000-square foot main building and four smaller buildings, all in the range of 5,000 to 10,000 square feet each.
The Center is considered a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) and more than $86 million was spent to create the infrastructure for the big project. The public sector provided $13 million for the development and $10 million came from DART for the new light rail station.
