BIG RED DOG is the civil engineer for Capital Studios, developed by Foundation Communities, which will provide 135 efficiency apartments in downtown Austin. Capital Studios, which is taking shape on what used to be a surface parking lot at 11th and Trinity Streets, is the first new affordable housing project to be built in downtown in over 45 years. The project architect is Dick Clark and Associates.
Foundation Communities is using $11 million in federal housing tax credits to help finance the project, which supports the vision laid out in the recently-adopted Downtown Austin Plan. That plan calls for the creation of affordable housing, including permanent supportive housing.
Rent at the Capital Studios apartments will range from $400 to $650 per month. Residents will also have access to on-site social services. The project is being built with the highest possible green standards, and will be locally owned and managed by Foundation Communities.
Foundation Communities owns and operates 17 properties in Austin and North Texas, and provides quality, affordable homes and free onsite support services for thousands of Texas working families with kids. The organization also helps veterans, seniors and individuals with disabilities. Foundation Communities’ innovative, proven model empowers residents – and neighbors – to achieve educational success, healthier lifestyles and financial stability.
