    • Our expectation is that incoming interns do not have an understanding of MEP systems. Students will begin their internship on submittal review because understanding the parts and pieces is a big part of design systems.
    • Interns will learn to read plans, understand specifications, and begin to understand what’s important to MEP engineers by working on submittals.
    • Interns will then go on site visits so they can see the projects in real life.  This is how they get a physical understanding of the systems.  As they begin to understand the parts and pieces, they are given tasks like area take-offs for load calculations, running load calculations (Trane Trace & COMcheck), laying out lights for energy code compliance (Photometric software) and designing systems.
    • As interns show progress in understanding the parts and pieces of systems and a grasp of the systems and understanding of calculations they are then moved on to design.
    • Successful interns are reviewing RFIs, completing calculations, beginning to design systems, attending field reviews, writing field reports and blog posts.
