Katie Burke SABJRiding on the wave of rising rents and an increasing demand for urban living, a new developer to the city’s residential scene has a 220-unit development slated for downtown San Antonio.

SC Bodner Co. Inc., an Indianapolis-based multifamily development and management company, has teamed up with the local Big Red Dog office to start construction on 120 9th St., the name and location for its next residential project. Housed in the former Turner bowling alley, the developer recently purchased the site from the state of Texas.

Russell Yeager, vice president for Big Red Dog in San Antonio, said the complex — construction for which will start in October — will have an ideal location.

And the fact that nearly half of the units in the complex will have river views is sure to be a top selling point.

The five-story apartment complex will be SC Bodner’s second throughout the state, the first of which was Creekside South in Wylie, Texas. It will include studios, one- and two-bedrooms, structured parking, elevators, a swimming pool, dog park, outdoor fire pit, clubhouse and fitness center.
