At BIG RED DOG, we know that our staff is the driving force behind our success. For this week’s staff spotlight, we’d like you to meet Dustin Hannah, P.E. Dustin is the Education Market Leader for BIG RED DOG in Houston. You can learn all about him below!
Where are you originally from and where did you go to school? I’m from Goliad, TX and attended Texas A&M University – Kingsville.
Who or what inspires you? My Fiancée, Ashley, inspires me to be a greater person everyday. (but don’t tell her that)
What’s your favorite place to eat in your hometown? The Local Table in Katy.
Describe your ideal vacation. Somewhere with friendly people, local food and rich culture.
What would be impossible for you to give up? My Truck. We live in Texas. Better yet, we live in Houston. You can not get anywhere without some form of transportation.
Who is your favorite sports team? Force Racing Team – NHRA
Tell us something interesting about you. I am 9 years old! Let me rephrase; I have only had 9 actual birthdays in my life. Born on Leap Day, February 29th, I only get a birthday every 4 years. Everyone always asked what I do on the years without a 29th; do I celebrate on 28th or 1st? I will always be loyal to February.
Everyone at BIG RED DOG has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours? Working in the Engineering field in Houston, I would hear rumblings of this new firm in Austin… People would say, “What was the name of that place, they had a big red paw print on their sign…. Oh yeah, BIG RED DOG. Funny name….??” I started seeing the name pop up more in journals, podcast and on Local and National Award list and I would think, “They might be on to something.” I was happy to see Big Red Dog expand into the Houston market, bringing to our local industry what had been proven in Austin and elsewhere. I joined the team to be a part of this amazing movement and help grow the firm in Houston and beyond.
What drew you to the engineering field? I am a Maker. As a Civil Engineer, I get to make some pretty cool stuff: roads, bridges, subdivisions and shopping centers. What better way is there to give back to your community than to be part of its growth and prosperity?
What types of projects have you worked on? I have worked on all aspects of development, from due diligence/design/permitting to construction management/final inspections/close-out. My experience covers Municipal Utility District Projects, Single Family Residential, Public Roadway/Infrastructure and Site Development for Educational Facilities, Religious Sanctuaries, Retail/Commercial Centers, Multifamily Housing, Industrial Complexes, Healthcare Facilities, and Hotels.
What do you like to do in your free time? I like to spend my free time with family, relaxing with a good movie or hanging out in the garage, tinker with whatever project I picked up that week.
