At BIG RED DOG, we know that our staff is the driving force behind any and all success. For this week’s staff spotlight, we’d like you to meet Jo Corbett. Jo is the Office Coordinator for BIG RED DOG Engineering and Consulting in Austin. You can learn all about her below!
Where are you originally from?
Tell us something really interesting about you.
After spending so many years in restaurants, I can carry a ridiculous number of things at one time.
Everyone at BIG RED DOG has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours?
After five years of having a schedule opposite my husband and family, it was time for me to take the skills I’d learned in management to the daytime world.
What drew you to the engineering field?
My dad, husband and two of my best friends are engineers. You could say they’re “my people.”
What was your first job?
I worked as a sales/customer service representative at my best friend’s mom’s fabric store when I was fourteen.
Who or what inspires you?
My dad inspires me every day! He is a dedicated husband and father, athlete, cancer survivor, patient teacher, and an exceptional leader. I am continually amazed by his brilliance and positive attitude.
Where’s your favorite place to eat in Austin /Houston/Dallas (whichever city you live in)?
Justine’s Brasserie. Great French food and cozy, quirky Austin Ambiance.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I love to read and watch movies and Netflix. Fantasy, Sci-fi, and murder mysteries are my favorites.
What’s your favorite news source?
Do you have any pets?
Two dogs- a husky and a pit mix. I also desperately want a hedgehog.
Describe your ideal vacation.
Beautiful scenery, good company, and a good book.
What would be impossible for you to give up?
Who is your favorite sports team?
I love most sports, though I have few actual loyalties. I did decide as a kid to adopt the Boston Red Sox after I learned they were Stephen King’s favorite.
Best vacation ever?
My husband and I went to Cancun this past spring. We did very nearly nothing and it was glorious.
Last book I read?
Devil Bones by Kathy Reichs.
