July 1, 2015 by Will Schnier P.E.

This edition of our staff spotlight series introduces us to Marc Remmert, an electrical engineer who joined our team in 2015. At BIG RED DOG, we like to put the spotlight on our team members that make our organization entrepreneurial, creative, and leaders in our markets.

Learn more below about this world traveler, coffee fiend, and former baseball umpire below!

marc remmertWhere are you originally from?

Peoria, IL – but I tell everyone I’m from St. Louis, MO.

Tell us something really interesting about you.

I’ve done an insane amount of travelling in the last couple years.  Some of it for my previous job and some for pleasure; I’ve hit three continents, 20 states and more cities than I care to count, all since 2013.

Everyone at BIG RED DOG has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours?

The entrepreneurial spirit of BIG RED DOG really caught my eye.  I wanted to be a part of an organization that wasn’t satisfied with what was, and BRD clearly wanted to grow and get better at what they did every day.

Also, the office is downtown.  Short commutes in Austin are a hot commodity.

What drew you to the engineering field?

I’m a problem solver with a creative side.  I think that’s the definition of engineering.

What was your first job?

Baseball Umpire for my hometown little league.

Who or what inspires you?

I’ve been lucky to have several great mentors in my life.  I’m inspired by people who take the time to teach and guide others, helping people reach their fullest potential.

Where’s your favorite place to eat in Austin?

Tacos n’ Tequila.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Golfing, working out, reading (books, magazines, news – whatever), kayaking/SUPing Town lake

What’s your favorite news source?

New York Times.

Do you have any pets?

Not yet.

Describe your ideal vacation.

Get me to a European city where I can stay downtown and walk to everything there is to see and taste.  Then you’d find me on Caribbean beach where I could stay right on the coast sipping Cuba Libre’s and enjoying fresh seafood.  Afterwards I’d probably jet over to the Sierra Nevada for some hiking adventures and some quality time with Mother Nature.  We assumed unlimited time and money, right?

What would be impossible for you to give up?

Salty Snacks, especially goldfish..or coffee.  I kind of love coffee.

Who is your favorite sports team?

St. Louis Cardinals
