At BIG RED DOG, we like to reflect on our team members that make our organization strong, creative, and supremely capable. This edition of our staff spotlight series introduces us to our intern, Marissa Morales. Learn more about Marissa below!
Where are you originally from?
I was born and raised in Helotes TX, on a family ranch
Tell us something really interesting about you.
I am a bit of a hippie and due to a health reason, I make my own deodorant, face wash, makeup remover, and body wash.
Everyone at BIG RED DOG has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours?
There are several factors as to why I joined BRD. I did research on the company before my interview and really liked that it was a relatively small company, that was not only focused on the company as a whole but the individual careers and lives of their employees. The work was something new for me, nothing I had done before. When I walked into the office for my interview, I saw the open desks and interaction of the current employees and I could tell it was a comfortable environment, and that they enjoyed their job. During my interview, Chris and Randon were friendly and welcoming, I left my interview with my mind made up…I wanted to work a BRD.
What would you say is your favorite part about interning at BIG RED DOG?
Every day I learn something new, and each job is different. I really like that it is not very repetitive.
What drew you to the engineering field?
Several things have drawn me to engineering, but I think I was born for it. When I was small, I always enjoyed building my dolls houses rather than actually playing with the dolls. When I got older, I would help my dad design and build things around the ranch from creek damns to barns. I knew before I got into high school that I wanted to go into engineering.
What was your first job?
My first paying job was working at Gavin Steel Fabricating as a secretary.
Who or what inspires you?
My parents have always inspired and pushed me to do what I enjoy and never quit.
Where’s your favorite place to go in San Antonio?
It is so hard to choose, but there is a small drive-in restaurant downtown called the Malt House that my grandparents take us (my siblings and I) to on special occasions. My grandmothers first job was as a waitress there and they haven’t changed a thing. You pull up and flash your headlights for a waitress, and they bring out the best burgers on trays that hook onto the window.
What’s your favorite movie?
I have several, but its between The Wizard of Oz and the Illusionist
What’s your favorite news source?
CNN world news, I enjoy the debates
Do you have any pets?
One cat named Onyx
Describe your ideal vacation.
I love cruises, any where, any time of year. I like them because I can see several different places on one trip and I don’t have to deal with flying to each place, checking into hotels, or moving my luggage.
What would be impossible for you to give up?
My beliefs and my faith
What is your ideal position?
I like that BIG RED DOG is expanding. I would like to become a project manager and possibly open a branch of my own.
