Staff Spotlight: Shawn Barry

Where are you originally from and where did you go to school? I’m from Southern California and earned an Associate of Science degree in Engineering Design and Drafting from Rio Hondo College.
What was the last book you read? How to Become a Rainmaker, by Jeffrey J. Fox
What was your first job? Selling churros at Disneyland
Who or what inspires you? Creating new things
What’s your favorite place to eat in your hometown? NOBU in Newport Beach
Describe your ideal vacation. Sitting in a boat on the Arctic waters around Greenland, photographing Narwhals
What would be impossible for you to give up? Learning/Reading
Who is your favorite sports team? Springfield Isotopes
Tell us something interesting about you: I have a goat named Francisco. I am a ‘Extra’ class HAM radio operator. I fly drones recreationally and I am certified by the FAA to fly commercially.
Everyone at BIG RED DOG has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours? My family was looking to escape California. BIG RED DOG was the only company I found that seemed worth making such a dramatic change for.
What drew you to the engineering field? My high school drafting class was awesome. I am drawn towards technology and analytics.
What types of projects have you worked on? Tract housing development, oil refineries, commercial, and multifamily.
What do you like to do in your free time? Playing with, and snuggling with my 90 pound Pit Bull, Buddy.
