We're Thankful for the Texas Economy

November 27, 2013 by Russell Yeager

It’s the time of year when everyone takes stock of what they’re thankful for and at BIG RED DOG we’ve got a long list!

With offices in Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, we’ve been lucky to work with many of the people helping to shape growth in these three Texas cities. We’re thankful that the Texas economy is growing at a healthy pace, and that city leaders are taking an active role to guide growth in a smart way.

San Antonio has also been named one of the best cities for business and careers. Mayor Julian Castro has declared this the “Decade of Downtown,” and the city has been working with developers to bring jobs and residents to the city’s core. BIG RED DOG is proud to be working on several downtown San Antonio projects, including the Peanut Factory Lofts, Elan Riverwalk and 1130 Broadway. Downtown San Antonio’s Hemisfair Park is also going to undergo a transformation.

Austin, where BIG RED DOG got its start, has once again been topping lists like this one and this one as a job-creating city. According to the U.S. Census, the Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos corridor was the fastest-growing large metropolitan area in the country last year. Bucking the national trend, Austin has not only seen a huge amount of job growth in the metro area, but in its downtown area. According to a report from the Brookings Institution’s Metropolitan Policy Program that came out earlier this year, Austin is just one of four cities to add jobs in its downtown from 2007 to 2010.

Houston has been giving Austin a run for its money when it comes to topping lists – it’s one of the fastest growing areas in the country, has rebounded spectacularly from the recession, and has desirable neighborhoods. BIG RED DOG has had a number of Houston clients over the past few years, and in August we opened our Houston office.

With a busy and productive 2013 almost behind us, we’re looking forward to 2014.
