Hi Jesús! Tell us a little bit about where you’re from and where you went to school. I was born in the small city Acayucan in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. I moved to Houston when I was 10. I attended the University of Texas at Tyler where I earned my Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering and also played collegiate soccer.
What drew you to the engineering field? One of my first memories as a toddler was watching my street being paved. I remember being two feet tall, hanging onto the door screen as I watched the big yellow dozer working the subgrade. In high school, I knew I wanted to be in the engineering field and eventually after college I honed into helping build infrastructure and communities.
Nice. Where’s your favorite place to eat in your hometown? My mouth waters just thinking about the delicious tacos from Taco’s Jaime from my hometown. I’m on a mission to find comparable tacos in Houston.
What do you and your wife like to do when you travel? My ideal vacation involves exploring, hiking/biking/camping, and exploring the culture, people, food/beverages, as well as finding where the locals like to hangout. My wife and I like to get to know cities by visiting their breweries.
What would be impossible for you to give up? The day when I cannot physically play soccer will be a sad one.
What else do you like to do in your free time? Professionaly, I am involved in the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Toastmasters International. In my free time, I like a good mix of staying active and hanging out. I play as much soccer (indoor/outdoor) as I can, I ride my bicycle around town, and I occasionally play sand volleyball. I also enjoy sipping on a good beer and watching a good show or documentary on tv.
